We’re flexible! This home is our cottage, so it is open really anytime, but we need a couple of months' notice to arrange time off work for travel if it's going to be a synchronous exchange. Also available as VRBO.

Large historic home on St Margaret’s Bay near Peggys Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada

Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia is one of the world’s most beautiful and iconic Canadian sites, with expansive beaches of boulders and quaint fishing villages that line this spectacular coastline. Our home is 240 years old, and local historians say it was once a boarding house for rum runners including Al Capone who famously ran guns through St Margaret’s Bay (right across the road). Our 4 bedroom home has 3 full bathrooms and a small gym, is 3 levels for loads of privacy, and has views of the bay with nooks to read, play board games, cook meals and spend time with family and friends. 2 kayaks available. 17' Siren sailboat possibly available (if you can sail). Lobster and dancing down the road at the Shore Club - open since 1946, and a showcase for east coast musicians. Please see the lifestyle description for further details.

Our Neighbourhood

Nearest Airport: Halifax - 50km

Glen Margaret is one of a string of small communities along Peggy’s Cove Rd, along the South shore of the Nova Scotia Coastline, 10 minutes from the iconic landmark of Peggy’s Cove. Although the community is in the country, there are grocery stores, a liquor/cannabis store, banks, hardware and drug stores, coffee shops, book stores, antique stores and art galleries, restaurants, bakeries and craft boutiques throughout Peggy’s Cove, especially during the summer months. Please note: the house, while in a large yard, is on a busy road that has a 70km speed limit, as it is the lighthouse route thoroughfare that follows the coastline.

Lifestyle

The house is a large family home, and it’s where our family congregates for dinners and games nights, for kayak trips (you can drop the kayaks into the ocean across the road, but there isn't a proper beach right where the house is), and outdoor fire pit conversations. We love to be outdoors, there are loads of hikes and beach walks, and kayaking nearby…We are drivable to historic colourful seaside towns like Lunenburg, Chester, and Mahone Bay. I recommend you do a drive by on Google Maps to make sure this is the place for you - it's not in a typical neighbourhood, nor is it isolated and rural. We're a 35-minute drive to the city of Halifax, and grocery stores, etc, are a 20-minute drive. If there is interest, I can send you the precise address.

We have a bbq, a fire pit (but fair warning, sometimes there are fire bans depending on drought conditions) and a large yard with a beautiful garden to roam. Hot tub will be there by late fall, 2025. For full disclosure, this house is in an area that has a lot of tourist traffic in the summer - it's NOT a great walkable location. We have 4 adult mountain bikes but you wouldn't bike on the busy road - there is a lengthy forested bike trail just down the road (by the Bikes and Beans coffee shop), and elsewhere there are vast trails. The vehicle we would trade you has bike and kayak racks. We have 4 pelican kayaks with all the gear. You wouldn't do any big trips in these kayaks but paddling from bay to bay works. We also have two stand up paddle boards. There are many places to drive to use these - we have maps and lists of locations. We do also VRBO the home, so it is set up for guests.
