City Centre House in Dublin, Ireland. Exchange arranged for July 2024. Available for exchanges in northern Europe for August 2024.
Three bedroomed house in central Dublin within walking distance of the capital’s tourist attractions. I was listening to the bells of St Patrick's Cathedral when taking these photos.
Our home is in a small and friendly cul de sac of terraced houses built for communications workers in the 1930s. Although you will be in the city centre, our street is quiet and private. The house is along a laneway, which is wide enough for a large car and there is a driveway in front of the house so parking is not a problem during your stay. .
On the ground floor there is a living and dining room with an open fire, kitchen, a cloakroom with the washing machine, and a toilet. French windows lead out to an enclosed back garden with a patio and vegetable garden.
The kitchen is small but, as I love to cook, it is well equipped. There is a gas cooker and a 50:50 fridge freezer. Depending when we exchange, you may be able to eat from our garden. The garden photos were taken in March and I will keep updating them.
The first floor has two bedrooms. The front bedroom has a king size bed and a large built in wardrobe. The back bedroom is set up as a study with desk, book case and armchair. For short exchanges we can make up a double mattress on the floor. For longer exchanges we can set up the double bed. There are photos of all of these options. The original fire places are in both bedrooms but these cannot be used.
The bathroom is on the first floor. It has a large roll top bath and a shower.
The third bedroom is in the attic. It has a king sized bed, armchair and television. The view is to the south of the city including the Dublin Mountains.
There is gas central heating, which provides instant hot water.
Previous exchanges were in Amsterdam, Goteborg, Stockholm, nr Alicante and Greenwich Village, NYC and a non-simultaneous exchange with Hawaii. I have recently re-joined Intervac having had a fantastic experience exchanging homes, particularly when I was writing up my PhD.

Time Out has ranked Dublin 8 as one of the world’s coolest neighbourhoods. Our home is right in the centre of fantastic cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars as well as the amazing tourist attractions, which Dublin is celebrated for. We are in the historic heart of Dublin within walking distance to the Irish Parliament, National Gallery, National Museum, National Library of Ireland, Trinity College and the Museum of Literature of Ireland. There are beautiful and historic public parks nearby: the Iveagh Gardens (which backs onto the National Concert Hall), St Stephen's Green and Merrion Square.
Experience Irish culture during one of the film, theatre, music, literary festivals through out the year. Visit exhibitions at one of the many galleries across the city including the Irish Museum of Modern Art and Hugh Lane Gallery. Immerse yourself in the history of Ireland and our diaspora at EPIC (Europe's leading tourist attraction 2019, 2020 and 2021), explore our history at the National Museum and Kilmainham Gaol, with a visit to the Book of Kells or on a walking tour. Enjoy live music at Whelans, The Sugar Club, The Workman's Club and the Cobblestone Pub. Taste our famed Guinness, craft beers, whiskeys and gins at source in local breweries and distilleries and try out the new bars with their delicious Irish cocktails.
Our home is the perfect base to walk Dublin City and base yourself for travelling farther afield. The house has a driveway and there are railings if you want to lock bikes here, or you can store them in the enclosed back garden.
It is easy to get around the city. There is a 'NOW dublinbikes' stand where you can hire bikes less than 5 minutes away. There is excellent public transport including a direct bus to Dublin airport (Camden Street) and the Green Line Luas (tram, St Stephen's Green).
As well as enjoying our city centre location, we are close to the canal for walks into the suburbs; and we encourage you to take the Dart (electric rail system) to explore the coast with boats to Ireland's Eye at Dun Laoghaire, the Bray - Greystones 7km cliff walk south side, or the 6-10km Howth Head loop walk on the north of the city.
